Why Wild Capital exists

Wild Capital was founded in 2023 to address a recurring cause of planning delay. Biodiversity, nutrient and protected species requirements were holding up consents, and no single provider combined the capital, ecological expertise and land needed to secure the mitigation in advance.

We own freehold land, create and register habitat, and supply credits to developers who cannot comply on site. We also take on long-term management for developers who don’t want to steward habitat themselves.

Unusually for our scale, we own the freehold to every scheme, backed by independently managed endowments and secured by conservation covenants or planning obligations.

What we mitigate

Biodiversity net gain
Area, hedgerow and watercourse units, registered with Natural England.
Nutrient and water neutrality
Phosphorus and nitrogen credits for sensitive catchments, from constructed wetland and habitat creation.
Protected species
European protected species and priority species, including dormouse, great crested newt and Brent goose.
Habitat Regulations
Compensation and mitigation for schemes affecting designated European sites.
SANG
Suitable alternative natural greenspace for Thames Basin and Solent catchments.
Onsite habitat management
Long-term management of habitat on land you retain.

Funding and building projects for others

Our capital and delivery team are not limited to our own habitat banks.

Funding partners’ projects

We can fund nature projects that partners bring to us, from land and habitat creation through to long-term management, and recover our capital as the outcomes are delivered.

Projects built to order

Where a client or partner needs a specific outcome, we design, fund and build the project for them, on their land or on land we secure.

Across the UK and Europe

We are taking the same model to Europe, working with local consultancies and landowners on mitigation for major projects.

Freehold, perpetuity, capital and independent monitoring

How most of the market works

Most providers sell from land they lease or hold only for the statutory minimum, and often verify their own habitat.

How we work

We own every site freehold and protect it in perpetuity, so there is no cliff edge at year thirty. Endowments are funded at sale and held by a regulated investment manager, and independent ecologists verify what our team manages.

Who stands behind the obligation

The land
We own the land freehold, with no lease and no third-party landowner.
The covenant
A conservation covenant or planning obligation protecting each site in perpetuity, registered against the title.
Responsible Body
An independent Responsible Body or the local authority can step in if we ever fail to deliver.
The endowment
Long-term management is funded by an endowment set aside at allocation.
Financial strength
We have £56.5m of capital for land and habitat, and are rated Very Low Risk with an international credit score of A. That capital lets us buy land and create habitat before your programme needs it, and fund its management for the long term.

Consented sooner. Nature better off.

That is the business as it stands today, and our mission explains where it is going.
